Recently I have seen a couple DE boats (one an H&H and the other a Duffy) that had scuppers down the sides as well as across the transom. Interesting I thought, as I have only seen that many scuppers used on Novi-style boats.

What do you guys think about that design?

If you are CG inspected, the vessel has to be able to shed a certain amount of water, and scuppers in the sides allows this.Novi boats have them in the sides because most of the decks arent flat, they are like a rocking horse, and have a step up forward. If you ever take a good sea over the side and fill a deck with water you want it gone quick,so the more drainage the better. If you look at any offshore vessels such as draggers and offshore lobster boats or boats that are decked over you will see they have scuppers all the way around. Most big boats decks are awash when there in any whether.
