I'm having trouble with seagulls taking residence on top of my pilothouse and pooping. It must be an inviting place for the little guys, even though I don't put out a welcome mat. I'm wondering if anyone has found something that works. I've seen the 6' sweeps that mount on top of the boat, plastic hawks, etc. Thanks for any suggestions. Cleaning bird poop is a smelly and time consuming job.

Half a bucket of bait on top of the guys boat who is always throwing a big wake coming and going should solve the problem..... For you.

just make sure the boat you bait is at least a quarter of a mile away, if not they will fly to yours and eat it!! gull sweeps work good just not in high wind. as long as what you put up there is moving they wont go near you

Thanks for all of the "advice". I'll try a sweep and see if it works.

Flags do work, to this I can attest
However, if too low and wet, they don't work so great whereas they drag across the cabin top
Plus after a season at 30+ they pretty much disintegrate and just become the reinforced end with some grommets

String monofilament line across the roof in zig zag patterns. Just had to do it on my foredeck. Once they find a place they are comfortable they keep coming back. They will fly into the mono and this will freak them out. Works everytime.

Seagull poop UPDATE

It has been a month or more since I put the mono on the boat and wanted to give you all an update. It worked!! I tied 6 pieces of mono to a zip tie, put the antennae down and zipped it to the top (about 6" down). I then put the antennae up and locked it in place. I tied the 6 lines to the grab rails on the roof, the rocket launcher etc. The birds can't land on the roof anymore.
Clean as a whistle! Thanks for the help on this guys. The best part is that I don't have to take it down when using the boat. I used 30 lb. Vanishing Line mono. :D

Yes this works very well. I also keep plastic owls up, works most of the time until the fall around here when they get bold, and then the mono works 100%
