I've got a project Seaway 23 in the garage, I'll look at the numbers and see if they start with xkx in the morning. Mines a 1985, if I remember correctly. Nice all glass hulls, watch the wood in the transom and stringers, mine were rotten. Post pics please if ya grab it!

You are correct. XKX is seaway and you are missing one number. It looks as though it was built in the 80s but you need the last number for an exact year.

The deck has some soft spots and needs to be replaced.Has a 115 hp. motor .It looks to be in rough shape.I measured about 22ft. from tip of bow to the transom. What model is this one?

Unbolt of all the ugly stuff on it , power wash and you have a great project hull. Go for it.

How do you deal with scuppers below the waterline?

Raise the scuppers by installing larger stringers. You can also go with a 3/4" plywood sole and that will increase the scupper height. Of course you need to plug the old scupper holes, but if you are putting in a new transom this is just about drilling new holes. I went with 2" pvc scuppers with rubber flaps and they work well. Drill from the inside out (through transom) after the transom and sole are glassed, level with sole to make it self-bailing. Don't forget to hot coat and/or put a layer of glass to keep your transom safe from water intrusion. I used 5200 to put the pvc scuppers in.

Check out my rebuild thread of a 1976 20' Eastporter for more information and photos. I increased my scupper height by about 3" to keep water out of the boat.

That hull is considered their 23. How is the transom? I say go for it as well.

I do not know how sound the transom is yet. I spoke with the seller and he has no title for the boat. His story is the boat was given to him by a man because of non payment of boat storage. The man tried collecting back storage fees but was told that the owner had died. Is there a way to get this boat titled?

Every state is different. Some states (like PA) if the boat was made before 1997, you don't need a title, just a bill of sale. Delaware makes you sign the back of the registration. I'd make sure I got a notarized bill of sale since there's no title. You're in FL right? They may be a little tougher, maybe register it in another state and transfer it back when the reg runs out??

It looks like this boat has been sitting on this roller trailer for years, I noticed some hull deflection where it rests on the rollers . Is this something to worry with and will it effect the hulls performance?

Awhile back I bought a 26' fiberglass sailboat that had been stored for years on a sagging wooden cradle. The cradle caused six seemingly permanent dents in the hull where the cradle was pushing up into the hull. After the situation was corrected, it took about 2 years but much to my surprise the dents fixed themselves and the hull returned to its original shape. It's possible the boat you're looking at will correct itself once it' properly supported
