28' Seaworthy BHM
I am new to the site, and have learned a lot from the members here. I currently own a 25 DV Parker Pilot House and looking to upgrade to a 28 Seaworthy. I have heard nothing but great things about this boat/engine combination, and came across this boat recently;

2006 Seaworthy (BHM) Downeast Cruiser Power Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com

I have had several conversations with the broker over the past week. I was wondering if anybody knows anything about this particular Seaworthy? Also, price seems a bit high given the market place...any thoughts here.

Boat is 4 hours from my house, so any information would be appreciated before I take the trip to see her in person.

Thanks again!!

I owned a 28 Seaworthy for a couple years, it was a great boat for the fishing I did. I had a Volvo 63 series in it and it was more power than it needed. The Yanmar 315 seems to be a great fit for that boat, I am sure Raider Ron will chime in, he has that exact combo. The hull rides great, about the only knock is a following quarter which it wanted to wander but it wasn't bad, IMHO. The thing is a tank, it will take far more than most fisherman can.

As far a price goes, I too agree, 99K seems high, but who knows, it's worth what someone will pay. A new one is far more than that. There's one for sale with a Cat 3126 listed now at 79K that has been for sale for awhile, real nice boat too, a sign of the current marker more than the condition of the boat I am sure. I'd prefer the Yanmar package.

The 25 and 28 BHM hull molds I believ are owned by Steve Law. He has the name Seaworthy for both.

Steve is on this forum.
Doggone good chance he built the 2006 28 BHM you are considering.

Bill,

Thanks for that info. I was told the boat has been on the market since '08....I'm sure it's more a function of the crappy economy....just makes me wonder!

Seems like all the buyers came out of the wood work the same week I expressed some interest...

Mobeach,

Since you are new here some back ground. Most of this was in other past threads. There was a MDI 45' dive charter boat named the Jean Marie in Shinnecock. From the late 90's to 2004 my better half was into diving. She dove off of the Jean Marie and at times was a mate on the boat. In the spring of 2005 the people who owned the Jean Marie were killed in a car accident. The Jaimaine was set up to take over some of the Jean Marie's charter business. We took delivery of our 38' Duffy in August of 2005 and were involved with the dive community anymore.

The boat should have been documented as a charter boat. I just checked it was not. I'm docked at Jackson's Marina on the south end of the Shinnecock Canal I saw the boat go by maybe once a year. It was docked on the north end of the canal. From 2006 with 140 hours it could not been used much.

I don't know what you want to use boat for. But the ad says the dive ladder does not go with the boat. There is a marine welder in Shinnecock who may have made the ladder or could make you as good or better ladder.

From the outside pictures I'm not sure were in Shinnecock the boat is. Since you are 4 hours away if you want me to look at the boat or have questions let me know were it is and I'll go and find out.

Frigate,

Thanks for the background! I appreciate the off to check her out for me as well! At this point, I'm still a bit off from what they would give me for my boat and what the will take off the asking price of the Seaworthy. As far as use, I don't dive, so would only use the boat for fishing.

Priced way-high in my opinion. That particular boat is as simple of a BHM as you could build.

I wouldn't pay over $75k

Good Chance,

I agree...pretty basic. At the right price, that would be fine as I could customize the way I want. I would need to factor in winter back, bow railing, $$$. Looks like I will wait a bit longer for the right deal. Thanks for the reply!
