When aligning the engine how many thousanths is acceptable?
Soft mounted engine if it matters?

I was taught that .003" is the maximum allowable angular misalignment between coupling faces. This is for vibration isolating mounts.

1/1000th per inch of diameter of coupling max on solid what I was taught

although you shoot for 0 up/down and side/side it ain't easy, find 0 then loose it trying to get it in the opposing , always close but no cigar is "commercially acceptable"

Dave Gerr recommends .001 per inch of coupling flange diameter, so a 4" flange would be .004".
