I'm buds with the guy doing the filming. He fished lots with Nicky.
He's got some GREAT stories about fishing with Nicky.
He says they averaged 120+ fish a year on that boat.
Boat is a 1989 35 Duffy built by Andy @ Cape & Island boat works.
He's got a real nice portrait of the boat hanging in his repair shop.

I have heard that Nicky was a good harpooner but I am guessing that the thing above him with the wings was helpful.

I could of been one of the kids on the dock in the video. Norman, in the plane, gave me a stack of photos to use for a High school report on Bluefin tuna, some of the pics of them unloading the fish using his tow truck. Peter, Nick's partner, use to hunt with us, told me of using the gun and offered me a job twice.

As the story was told to me they had to go get the tow truck and rental truck because they burnt up the winch on the buy truck lifting the 1st (and one of the biggest) fish off the boat.

When running the Joann, they would throw then toss the whole rig out, setup another rig, throw and toss, setup, throw and toss. They would hit several fish in he same school without stopping. A 2nd boat would follow them pulling in the rig filling that boat then filling the Joann.

Wow good find! The true "heyday" of tuna fishing, would have loved to experience it. Not a single rod holder on that boat a true stick boat love it!
