I'm passing this info along for the guys who might be debating the choice of dripless vs traditional on there next reshaft/repower.

I'll be using the SMX shaft seal in my "virtual DE build" when the time comes.

"SMX Custom Shaft Packings -- Fully re-machined to much higher accuracies than the factory supplied "very rough" castings, 100% pure Teflon packing, SS grease fitting and pre-run thru 3-5 "HOT-COLD" run-in cycles at 1800 shaft RPM-----------------Ready to install & GO !!"

All custom and quoted per you needs & specs.. www.sbmar.com

I like dripless, all the pumps on my ships come with mechanical seals or get converted from packing. I know a guy here that ran his dry to the point he looked down from the tower and thought the boat was on fire there was so much smoke. The seal was glowing and the rubber boot melted and deformed. He stopped and let it cool and got the water issues cleared up. He started chasing tuna again and it has been like that for 7 years now. They are pretty durable.
