Good fuel and alot of air!! LOL I just wash it with boat soap but in the spring it gets 3 coats of Gary's wax, that seems to keep it clean but I do not get much soot.

Rich,if it is real bad you can use SUPER CLEAN or PURPLE POWER they are both great degreasers then wax like Mike said..you can get it at wal mart..

Wisk. Wet transon put, Wisk on soft brush, brush on and let sit for a minute and hose off. The soot goes and the wax stays.

Station wagon effect worse on some boats than others !!!!

Then again a Tier II or III marine diesel helps but VERY expensive upgrade to control soot !!! LOL:(

Cap, I had the transom on my NB 36 clearcoated, the 500 lugger was really bad with soot. The purple power works great with a soft bristle brush. Hope this helps.

gary's wax finished the deal
gonna put 6 -7 coats of wax on the transom
hopefully it will clean easier next time

Clean each trip with car soap, never wax anything on transom or cockpit, soot sticks to it.
