There was a SS 30' at the Dawn marina that used to belong to the Wallinskis down the cape. I believe the boat had a large yanmar in it and was much too fast for the hull to handle. I was told it keel walked and laid over from the torque. I have no first hand experience, I am just passing along what I heard. I do know that they cut the tower down due to a couple scary moments.

There is Leader which is a South Shore 30 with a tower. It is in Rings Island Marina.

That is the boat I was speaking of, I could not remember the name. It was an excellent harpoon boat when it was used for that. I think a lot of that had to do with the guys running it though.

Plowin,Do you know the size of the yanmar in the boat??because a friend is thinking of building a SS 30....but maybe the problems were from the tower

That was Greg Walinski's boat originally, he built her, or had her built. If I recall correctly he installed a 420 Yanmar. I bet that hauls serious ass.

The 420 yanmar sounds correct, and I do believe that the tower was the issue.

The Leader was built for a specific purpose. I personally don't think she'd run right without the pulpit.

There has been at least one SS 30' built as a race boat, 30+ kts. The driver would need to know how to run her at speed, the tower would certainly not help.
