anyone have one? new to me boat and came with one. the internal battery is dead. ive never had one on prior boats and never had electronic issues when starting the engine. thinking it may go to trash but interested in any opinions on these

I added one to resolve the issue of my electronics shutting down at start-up. It worked for awhile but when the internal battery died I installed a Blue Seas battery isolator with charging relay. That's a better solution. If your electronics aren't shutting down just ditch it. If they are, look into the isolator and ACR option and ditch it. It's an expensive band-aid that doesn't last long. I think the isolator and ACR was about the same money.

Scoot, you can replace the battery in those startguards... But I agree with Bill_N. The ACR's from Blue Sea Systems are a much better solution if it becomes an issue. Also In most cases, a dedicated house battery with "manual isolation" on the battery switch is the simplest solution.
