The owner has rambuncious little ones. I told him i would only take the job if I could mount the controls safely under a hatch. Worked out real well.

I did it to mimic the fwd station. I understand what you are saying, i actually tried it that way first, but the capillano helms didnt seem to like it. So i put it the same. My feeling is really that either way, you will quickly get used to it

Dreaming of something like that but think I would want a deadman switch because I know i would just fall overboard when fishing alone.... in the dark most likely.

Nice install though and I agree a small wheel would be slick.
