This is my 16' Stonington Skiff I picked up last year. .. . .. ..river play boat for me and my boy. These boats were built by the Shaffer family in Stonington Connecticut. .. . . .my home town. They were very popular boats for clamming, crabbing, and the flea fleet lobstermen. They could hold a bunch of gear and have really high gunwales. . . .very stable boats. They haven't been made for some time. Well. . . .. .the real ones. A builder in Bristol R.I. bought the mold, but changed it up a bit. In order to get the new ones USCG approved they put floatation under the deck. This lowered the gunwale hight and aren't as stable to work out of.

My boy has a few more years before it's all his. .. . . .. .!!

This looks like the one my father just sold. Did you buy that boat in fairhaven Mass? I wasn't very happy when he sold that boat. He reinforced the deck for the same amount of money that he sold it for. But it looks like it went to a good home. Looks good.

. . .. . ..the boat in the pic was bought locally. It never left the area. HOWEVER. .. . . . I just bought another Stonington Skiff this morning that came from Mass. . .. . it is the same exact color. Very good shape. The hull is 1957!! Could be your father's old one. . . .. the guy I got it from bought it out of Mass to use a tender.. .. . .he found a different boat.

. . .. . . . As to why I bought another one. .. . . .it's a sickness!

He is crazy i wanted to kill him for selling that boat. He did alot of work to it. He goes out in the bay here and it gets a little choppy and he says the boat didn't have enough weight up front, he couldn't get the bow down. Having a 25HP ETEC didn't help, those motors are extremely heavy for the size. So he sells the boat and buys a piece of shit aluminum that is going to leak like hell. I can't even talk about it. Lmao..........:D

Nice grab! I saw that on Craigslist and was going to jump on it but when I went back to get the info it was gone, good for you, I will keep looking. I am looking for one to keep at Schaffers this summer. I have a Boston Whaler but like the skiff better for that area for fishing, clamming etc. Good luck with them.

. .. . .. .now that would have definitely been 'full circle' if this boat ended up back at Shaffer's! I'm down there quite a bit in the summer.. . .Alan runs a great business. Nice thing about having a skiff there is you can shoot out under the bridge. I'm thinking about keeping it at Cardinal Cove. That's where I picked up the first one. Another great location.

I have a stonington skiff that is for sale. The motor doesn't work, but the boat itself is an original. I have pictures - would like the boat to go to someone who appreciates these skiffs!
