I may be buying a complete john deere 4045tfm with all the accessories for very short money. The motor was on a stand in someones shop and was under three feet of water during sandy. The guy had it flushed within three hours of getting it out, Also, this was some 25 miles up the hudson river, so it was mostly fresh water. What am I going to need to do??? I have found overhaul kits for around 1000$$$ sleeves, pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, ect... Am I going to be able to salvage any of the internal parts???? or am I gonna need to completely rebuild this motor?? My mechanic is a very good friend of mine and one of my main fishing buddies so he is with the cause and will not be charging me very much for labor, if he charges me anything at all. Any advice???

My yanmar 370 went under water When the engine room flooded. The Yanmar service guys came and flushed her, replaced the starter and alternator, all filters, flushed the turbo. Tore her down for inspection. They fully serviced her along with the transmission also and fired her off. She has had thousands of hours put on her since by myself and then her new owner with 0 break downs.

I also had a race car go under water in a flood. The engine was drained, flushed and disassembled for inspection re lubed and assembled. Never had an issue.

I would have a shop pull her head and pan, Go thru and check er out. Id bet money the engine is completely fine.

ETA: Mine was non electronic. Id say that probably made a big difference
