Is there some terrible thing will happen if I top up my steering with AW 32 hydraulic fluid? I have seen people use ATF in Seastar helms. What say you guys?

I try to use the seastar fluid, but I have used ATF in the past. Just harder to turn the wheel. Tony Athens from Sbmar.com had some mix of diesel and ATF that he thought changed the viscosity so that it wasn't so hard to turn the wheel.

Athen's secret sauce is 2/3 s ATF and 1/3 clean diesel

Have always used the blue, arctic grade, oil for snow plow hydraulics in my Wagners. Makes steering a lot easier in cold weather. Available at most autoparts stores

Sea star requires a non conductive oil . Not sure the reason ? I think wagner can use motor oil as I recall . Scania propeller is the wagner dealer and service shop in fairhaven ,ma , They rebuilt a box for me a while back . Wagner is great because of the low cost fluid and rebuild ability .
