I've only had twin disc only because my boats have been used and that was what was in there. I've been told that twin disc service is not good and that ZF sevice is great. This is only anectodal so hopefully more guys will chime in.

One is more fun to say...

Both companies make great products. I prefer a ZF in my boat because I think the gearbox is more rugged for the size of my particular requirements than a TD of similar size.

I did develop some issues after multiple seasons, but with a little modification that has been solved and no issues after that. Mainly it was due to operator error.

If ya can't find a reputable east coast ZF supplier who ships,

Call Tony Athens @ Seaboard Marine Oxnard CA.
He'll have what you need probably in stock (ZF)
and ship it to your door. Ships big stuff all over the world.

Tell him the guys from "downeast boat forum" sent ya for a tranny!
Tony's the guy building the commercial WESMAC I've been posting.
