What is the "skiff" used for?

I would guess seineing.

Salmon Seining, the skiff pulls and holds the net up into the beach while the seiner makes the set, then they both tow or hold the set for awhile before closing up the net, then the skiff holds the seiner off the net while the set is hauled. Then its all done again and again all day long. Best i've seen is 150,000lbs of pink salmon in a 20 minute set.
