Ok so tell me if this sounds right to you. A guy "interested" in my boat said his friend just bought a 36' Crowley with a 450hp Isuzu. He claims the boat burns 3-4 gallons per hour at 1900rpms with an 18kt cruise.

Is it possible to get 4.5MPG at 18kts out of one of these boats?! If so why is anyone running any other motor? I thought mine getting 15gph at 18kts was pretty good.

I know the boat your talking about. Just saw it leave the other day. The owner was an absolute FANATIC about weight, and I doubt another 36' Crowley is even within 2500 lbs of this boat. The boat was finished off for harpooning with ZERO creature comforts. Very basic boat with a mast and stand. Tiny cabin and shade top. 458 hp Isuzu with a ZF gear. 100 gal of fuel. He had a RSW chiller rigged up, because ice is too much weight. Not sure about hull, but everything else was laid up super light with efficiency in mind. There are a couple other Crowley's around that are rigged for lobstering, and this one sits 3-4 inches higher in the water.
Not sure I believe 4.5mpg at 18 knots, but definetly a super efficient boat.

At best, 10% of fisherman tell the truth, the other 99% lie;-). At a true 18 knots and the boat supposedly being light (although that engine isn't a light 450hp), it's probably burning more in the range of 10 gph (even 10 gph at 18 knots would be extremely efficient for a 36' boat)
