I figured it was now or never. Did a quick best as I could sand and wipe and painted the battery area and storage area under the helm a coat of Total Boat bilge paint.
Tight space and a pain in the ass but worth it I think.
The hair took a beating.
Needed a haircut anyway.

Slow progress. Lots of deadlines this time of year.
Good to have this chore behind me.
Like everything on this boat, even the bus heater hoses are oversized so had to upgrade to 3/4" valves for 5/8" hose barbs.
Crawling forward.

May think of using steel fittings for the bus heater. Especially the long nipple. I seem to remember issues with fatigue cracks with brass/bronze.

Just went with what Tony says. I would have used a shorter nipple up top after seeing how high it is but in thinking it through getting the valve cover off might be possible with the ball valve higher so it will stay.
I have to start letting my brain think a new owner will worry about the future.

xbskt - What are you using for pipe dope on your heater hose fittings? This past weekend I replaced all my hoses to hot water & bus heaters because the old ones developed pin hole leaks all along them; never seen that before.

Gasoila. I have never had a problem and works well for me.
BTW. I changed the brass riser nipple to steel. Mike Allen said no as well so that did it for me.

Good Call on that Jeff. The brass nipple that Cat supplied me cracked after a few seasons.

Interesting, haven't heard of Gasoila; might pick some up.
I've been using Rectorseal No. 5 with good results.
