V8 Diesel

Was on the phone with Mac Boring with a few questions about my 315 Yanmar.
Not that I'm looking but Rick there tells me the 315 no longer made, can only buy new old stock.
He tells me it's been replaced with a new V8
New engine 8LV - Yanmar Marine
Not sure I like the idea of a V over the straight 6, although the New Ford 6.7 & the Duremax diesels have been pretty awesome in trucks.
He says it's lower in height (maybe lots of boats could loose those engine boxes ? ) but it's also wider.
Can't imagine why many would be willing to shell out it's price tag also compared to a lower rpm true commercial engine.
Over $50K gear not included

Seems like it aimed at the oem market. I really wouldn't want to replace my current 370 yanmar with one of these. Hopefully that day is a loooong way off.

I saw one at the boston boat show, had two little baby turbo's on it. Personally, i wouldn't ever trade an I6 for a v8!

50K is not accurate. $38500 for a bobtail 370hp pleasure or 320/350 light duty commercial. Controls and harness's included. It cost more because you get more whether you want the options or not. The options I am referring to is dual sync, fuel metering, NEMA 2000 etc are all included. Add these options to a mechanical diesel like the 6LP and the prices are not far apart anymore. These are expensive options we added to a lot of boats (twin and single screw).
