I have a Volvo AD41 diesel. I had to remove the exhaust to get at some bolts for some other work. Anyway, there is a cast iron elbow that attaches to the turbo that has literally desintegrated in the area where the rubber boot attaches to the outlet side. Is this common?

The cast iron elbow has a couple of tubes attached to it where water the engine discharges the cooling water. Is there anyone that makes an aluminum replacement elbow?

You are fortunate you took it apart when you did.
The engine could have "swallowed" some water through the exhaust or you couls have burned up an exhaust losing the cooling water.

How old is the engine ?? Might be cheap enough to replace it with the same cast iron mixer, heck it lasted "how many years"??
