Going to drive up to Maine to look at a boat with a TAMD 74 430HP motor in it. I've done a little research and believe its a 74C-EDC but I'm not positive.
Does any one have any expirience with the TAMD 74C-EDC. Does any know know of any problems with these motors? Looked around on BD could find much on them. I just want a few things to look for when I get up there. Motor was new in 05. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Been a good engine for me after 3000hr 74C-EDC 450hp. Last yr, had a couple o-rings start to leak one at oil cooler inlet but were easily replaced. Another small trouble spot was the boost sensor and Tee under the EDC control that was orig steel. The digital display is a big plus with accurate fuel flow and real time use data so no need for flow scan. Over all on BD, very few problems so you do not see many threads. Like most have said, hopefully there is service in your area where you will use the boat.
Good luck

Call Brian McDonnell. He is the Volvo Guru of the northeast.
I'm sure he can give you all the info you need and refer you to someone in the area (I'd spring for him) for inspection and survey of the engine.

With all of the clams, lobsters, and fresh REAL seafood where you are, why do you eat at Wendy's????:eek:

I don't know about Travis but I have caught all kinds of sea food in my traps. I can honestly say , I haven't caught a hamburger or a steak out of one yet.

This color ??? :D:D

Yup that's the one auto correct change to bluefish I ment to write bluish. Thank you guys for your help I will be giving this gentleman a ring before I head up there. Where is he located, seems since he's so highly recommended I would be foolish to not have him survey it. I imagine someone with this kind of knowledge comes at a premium. any idea what this normally runs?

Don't know, travel time back and forth plus mechanics labor on the job. call him maybe he has other work where you have in mind. He is based in CT., near Hartford.
I'm sure you could find someone in Maine that would be cheaper . Some one on here must know a good man up there
