Here's a 36 footer Tony Athens built for a customer in 1989. He built it 100 % from scratch with the 36 New Wave mold Seaboard Marine owned at the time.
I'm pretty sure he's built more than one.

This one is named Triton a commercial sea urchin boat. Built light @ 23,000 lbs. empty she'll carry up to 7,000 lbs of sea urchins and fishes year round.

The boat started out with a pr. 1989 Cummins 6CTA 300C's. Repowered 5 yrs later in 1994 with 400C's. Repower again in 1999 with 420 C's and in in 2005 w/ QSC 490's.

Two weeks ago the boat got a pr. of new Tier III QSC 500's. The gears are ZF302IV V-drives. Boat tops out @ 30 knots and cruises in the mid 20's.

The owner averages about 6,000-7,000 hrs. per set of engines and about the same on the gears. Seaboard keeps a swing gear for him.

Here's a few pics for those interested.

btw, I've never seen a close coupled vdrive on a QSC.

Steel boat + 1000hp diesel = headphones for sure.

Slick boat. Must be a serious cash cow with all the engines it has paid for.

Oops. My mistake. Looking at the hole inthat one bulkhead it appears to be plywood.

That is big bux and for those hours I am surprised they dont do more repowering.

100% solid glass hull with Microlam stringers

Bulkheads, decks and cabin are foam core construction just like the Wesmac, Raptor, Outer Banks and and basically every boat he's built when the $bucks$ are there for that type of construction.

BillD- I don't see those mounts anywhere on the interweb, do you have any specs? I have a QSB6.7 slated to mate with a ZF280IV and have been looking for a sturdy set of mounts. The engine will show up with Barry mounts but I fear them too soft for a v drive and have been thinking of going hard mounted. Thanks, Chris

Chris,

I would send Tony an [email protected]
He can get you going in the right direction on obtaining the mounts or
a replacement.

Most likely you've perused Seaboard Marine's website and looked over the re-power articles. You'll find a number of close coupled vdrive re-powers.
