I know what engine,383 stroker 350 hp right around 400ft lb of torque max rpm 4600-5000. but don't know what gear to use , or prop? the boat: 1970 34ft webbers cove 2inch shaft can only handle a 19 inch prop, want to get the highest cruise speed I can get. I need help, thanks to the members I think im in the right place. p.s. iknow its not going to go that fast, just want the best I can get.

Use 2:1 and 19 X 13 3blade
Also 2.5:1 or even 3:1 might be good with that high RPM engine but would require a larger prop than you can swing or 5 blades.

However: I guessed at your LWL, BWL, molded draft, & displacement so get your exact figures together

I would go with the 2:5 gear that should bring you in at about a 19 X 19 wheel. 2'"shafting is to large. A 19" wheel has a minimum bore of 1.25 & a maximum of 1.5. To bore a 19" wheel to 2" will leave you with a very weak hub which could cause blade failure.
With a 2" shafting the minimum size wheel you can use is a 23" which will not fit. Getting a 23" wheel and cutting it down is also not a option.
Doses the boat have a 19" wheel on that 2" shaft currently.
A 34 Webbers Cove should swing a much larger propeller that a 19". In fact on most of the ones I have seen with CAT power they are swing 24" Wheels.
