I am assuming that you are talking about a 35 Bruno? If so you are very limit with propeller aperture and most likely a 1.5 shaft. Without doing a major drop shoe rudder & reshafting, I would look to find a 3208 375 HP with a 1.5 TD 507 gear. Or a 3126 CAT with a max of 420 and also a 1.5 gear. With the 1.5 gear your will max out on propeller size, plus the 1.5 shafting will be fine.

We did the boat with a 440 Yanmar 1.75 shafting & 1.77 gear. Swing a 21X20 propeller the boat ran like a rabbit, however it was a very costly repower.

Finding old reliable AKA the might 3208 TA is a very economical way to go. The 3208 is a very easy motor to work on, parts are plentiful and they run great. Keep the RPMs down to 2400 RPMs and the boat will give you years of loyal service.

Lastly I do believe those boats had a center steel fuel tank. Before you get to involved I would research the fuel system.

On the Yanmar Bruno we removed that rusty tank, made a fish box and was able to place two 100 gallon aluminum fuel tanks under the deck on both sides of the motor amidships. I also believe that placing the fuel weight of 1400 lbs. zeroed out the Yanmar weigh reduction of 1000 pounds. The boat sat real nice in the water and ran fairly flat at 19

Yes... It's a 35
Then I will stick to my thoughts on the CAT power w/1:5 gear. You can on a push use the 506TD it is rated for 350 HP & in running a 3208 @ 2400 RPMs you will be no where near that HP. Plus for the once & a while WOT you should be find. In addition the higher the reduction the stronger the gear. Meaning a 1:5 is much stronger that a 2.5:1.

Correct it was the Bunker Dunker...sold for a song & currently in South Jeresy.

i have 300 hp 3126 with 2:1, 1.75 shaft just changed wheel to 21x24 3 blade at 2400 it cruises 17+ wot 22. i usually run 2200 at 15 kts. i wouldn't go with a 3208, too big heavy, not bad motors but i think there are better choices, maybe one of those 315b cummins
