Interesting. Would you mind sending me some pics of the engine and stuff? It doesn’t look like your deck is raised. I have a Chrysler 360 in my 26gm and I have a huge engine box. I’d love to get rid of the box. It’s really the only negative thing I can say about the boat

Some day...
Or is your engine further forward than bulkhead
It’s forward of the steering bulkhead. I believe when they repowered it they pushed it forward to eliminate the engine box. It has its pros and cons but at the end of the day I actually kinda wish I had an engine box. Some of the maintenance item are next to impossible to reach the way it is.

My 29 H&H has no engine box (yanmar 315) but does have a step up into the wheelhouse but the house was made a little taller and I have tons of head room, more then I need. I kind of like the look of the lower wheelhouse better but it is real nice having the extra head room especially with a bunch of guys on the boat with clutter everywhere it gives you less of an over crowded feeling with that extra breathing space.

It was built in 93 but was redone by another forum member before I got it. I keep it in westerly

Is there a reason you are hung up on sub 30 ft?

Really length isn't the main thing to be thinking about IMO unless you have a slip or mooring limitation.

You might find a 32 that suits your desires, with a very straight forward no-box setup versus a 26 or 28 where they had to make every compromise possible to avoid the engine box.

Another side of the coin - boats where having an engine box is 50/50 it may not be much of a box to begin with - more of a raised platform you could still stand on versus a doghouse. And sometimes even blatantly "big" boats may have a small box to accommodate a tall riser or something but it really doesn't amount to squat. I have seen a 36 BHM that had both a deck plenty high enough & open transom, but with engine box for instance - other than the despised bullet point on such a big boat it really made no difference.

Thought so.
Previous owner cut the house way back to how it is proportioned now.
He had to repower also.
He had plans to tuna fish a lot then I think he lost interest in owning it.
Yea he was planning to fish with his brother and son but he’s brother was a little older and the long days wore him down and I think his son got into building a race car I think and it took up too most of his time so he decided to sell

I keep going back and forth with bigger vs smaller but the simplicity of a big, sub 30' is becoming more appealing. Curious what best under 30' is in your opinions?

Thank y

Coastal 27, Tripp 27, Nauset 27..all the same boat (not sure who built the boat when, mold got passed around)are essentially flush deck...maybe 4" step. Cabin is typical V berth, enclosed head, with about 6'5" headroom. There is one, Tripp 27 listed by Gray and Gray available now.
