Long time bluefin fisherman, new to CC Bay.
Last year was the first year I fished CC Bay, started for bluefin in the fall doing the whole game on the whiting grounds.
This week I passed over the whiting grounds four times and was always marking bait, nice little bumps up to about 80' above the bottom.
Then yesterday morning I picked this up on my sounder. Granted this sounder is new to me on this boat, I have had the prior versions as well as know what a tuna looks like. The only thing that got me here is the V looks pretty elongated to me, not used to that, again brand new sounder just installed it...
I love the new Furuno unit, nice fairing block and reads bottom all the way to 20kts, nothing special there. I loved it though picked up bait all the way to Ptown and back. For me it was the last piece of electronics I was timid to do a full fairing block, etc. So that is over now.
The "older" looking picture is god damn for sure tuna on an old Sitex unit. See how its not elongated.
No matter what, it has me suspect and thinking... Of course its only one mark and haven't seen anyone fishing for tuna in my bay adventures this week.
I also do realize what makes the "V", the distance from the transducer when it comes into the cone and leaves the cone.
So question is when does it all start there...
