With this week being too windy to fish I spent the last 2 days with a laser level taking all kind of measurements for my plan to raise my deck height because of my wet deck.
I plan to come up 4 inches at at the bulkhead in the wheel house and 5 inches at the stern, I've got more than enough pitch and can loose some. The last 8-10 inches across the stern I plan to ramp down a trough about an inch. 4 inches up un the wheel house will give me 6ft 1 head room, a bit less at the helm with the stb side door in the up position. I could live with that, can't live with the wet deck any more !
Going to cut out the livewell in the transom also. Plan to do a slush tank/ livewell below deck.
Currently my engine box is 17 inches high.
Bringing up the deck 4 inches I can cut the engine box down to 7-8 inches.
I want to get it down lower.

My question, my exhaust riser is the highest point of the engine by 4 inches.
I'm wondering if there is an optional lower profile riser and or one with the coolant hose with the brass threaded fitting on the side or a custom riser an option ?
I figure I can get the box down to 5-6 inches high with even the coolant hose on the side.
I know from watching a few other new builds on this forum there were a few with custom risers made.
Thanks

Heard something neat... If your doing all the deck work. Not sure about this friend trying it now. Moving the mixing elbow to the side of the boat to still maintain the slope. I think it was done previously on a Duffy 35. I like the idea...

I'm hoping so, I could live with a 5-6 inch high engine box !
I've got some built inns that I plan to tare out also which has been the reason I haven't ripped up the deck to this point.
Port side I've got a tackle station but I got some really cool ideas from Hammer Slammer's boat for a bench seat that will double as a seat and a bed to sleep on with the back rest that hinges up and gets suspended and used as a 2nd upper bunk.
As I said prior, No one wants to sit on an engine box, certainly for an hr + rids because they cant rest their back against something and be comfortable.

Ronnie,

The "overall height" of the riser will be dictated by the height above the waterline of the turbo and a design that will NOT hold any static/standing water.

I'm not sure you can or would want to eliminate the setup and height you have now.

Maybe this article can help you with a design that can fit your needs.

Don't see the article attached.....
Also, how does exhaust tube pitch angle come into play with the height ?

Ronnie,

Looking at your pic, you could change out the mixer and use a "dry" riser with a heat rap and install the mixer down stream a bit and inject cooling water there.

You'd eliminate the fitting and the hose as you want to do.

I copy and pasted your pic on the boatdiesel forum under your topic.

Bill,
I think we are on the same page now.
All I need is the brass/bronze fitting threaded in at the top and the radiator type hose repositioned to the side or elsewhere.
That would allow the engine box to be 2-3 inches lower.

Better might by a "dry riser elbow" to replace the mixer/showerhead you have now and install a straight mixer/showerhead starting about where the two big clamps are on the big exhaust hose you have now.

No sure if you can have the water feed moved on the mixer you have now.

That piece is double walled inside with a showerhead @ the distal end.

What we did on my repower was modify/weld the elbow to relocate the inlet so the deck fit.
Maybe RR's elbow pic above will work for you?

Thats exactly what I'm looking for to do.
Spoke to MacBoring.
No factory elbow and no issues with having one fabricated with the fitting for the oil cooler hose off the side rather than the top.
Just got to find who to fabricate it. Mine is cast. If it were stainless I could weld it up myself.
Preferably local to me in Ma.
Suggestions ???

Talked to both H&H propeller in Ma. and another place Marine Manifold in N.Y. today about fabricating a custom stainless mixing elbow, shaving a bit off the top and locating the fitting for the oil cooler hose coming off the side and turned forward.
My calculations & measurements raising the deck 4inches front and 5 aft and modified mixing elbow I can have the engine box as low a 5inches and could live with that.
Both said it's no big deal and they fabricate them all the time.
Have to email pictures to them to get the ball rolling.
Will probably use H&H as they are in Ma. so I can drop off old elbow for them to use to match & the fact I've bought stuff from them in the past.
Thanks for the replies & advice.
Boat will be getting hauled out in another 2-3 weeks and plan to start demolition right away.
