not a downeaster, but my first time aboard anything like this

boat was 60 ft, 3600hp with twin C32 Acert engines

when talking to the captain, $600,000 per copy

1800 hp at 2350,

this 50 ton boat took off like a rocket

burns a measly 150 gallons an hour when pushing 35 knts

I wouldn't want that boat though, pounded at cruise, loud, and rolled more than
any down east I have been on.

sure would like one of those engines though :D

We have 2 C32s on the party boat I run, Miss Barnegat Light. 90 foot 62 gross tons and its a 40 year old cat. We run them up to 1800 getting 1400HP. We burn just under 100 gallons an hour, total for the two, running at around 20 knots. We have Servo Gear transmissions which run variable pitch props. Neat setup.

Buddy of mine has a 53 Viking with twin Mann 1200's. She cruises at 35 knots, 75 GPH, which really surprised me for such a big boat. Not that I would want to pay the fuel bill, but his friend with a 54 Bertram, 26 knots, 125 GPH, big difference. We figured those numbers out on a run from Miami to NY. Pounding, been out in some nasty stuff in it over many years, it will not pound. But at some point, in really mean seas, you have to pull it back to the low 30's to high 20's, the beating that the boat can handle with easy becomes too much for the human body. Loved canyon fishing on that boat!!!

I like my 56' Dwight Raymond- 12.5 knots is maybe 15 gph running DETROITS and 10 knots is about 9 or 10 gph. Pair of C series in her and she'd be making fuel. Two or three times longer to get there, but I'm not broke when I arrive. Or beat to hell.
